The Coffee Room after redecoration, its gilded ceiling and warm walls renewed.

Grade I listed · Club · Pall Mall, London

The Coffee Room at the Travellers Club, the principal reception room of Charles Barry’s Pall Mall palazzo, was completely redecorated in its original colours, researched by the paint historian Patrick Baty. Alongside the redecoration we restored the gilding in 23.5 carat loose leaf and grained the mahogany doors. In a Grade I listed clubhouse in daily use, the aim is a room that feels inevitable, as though it had never been any other way, with decoration built to be lived with. Most members would struggle to say quite what has changed, which is how it should be.
